  1. Describe how marriages are contracted
  2. Explain marriage according to religious practices

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: pictures of citizens performing some civic responsibilities e.g voting, a chart/picture showing rights and duties of citizens textbooks, audio-visuals etc, pictures/chart showing how different religions perform marriages

Duties means something that one is expected or required to do by moral or legal obligation

1. right to life

2. right to dignity

3. right to personal liberty

4. right to fair hearing

Empathy means the ability to understand the thoughts feelings or emotions of someone else.

 

The teacher further states why empathy is a necessity for human relations

 

Being able to demonstrate empathy

1. creates trust.

2. creates an empowering and honest relationship.

3. It will increase collaboration and productivity

4. People will be assured that their feelings are being taken into consideration

The teacher discusses forms of marriages in Nigeria

1. Christian marriage

a. it is done in a church

b. it is officiated by a Pastor or Priest

c. It is according to the dictates of the Holy Bible

d. a marriage certificate is issued

2. Islamic marriage

a. Also called Nikkah, it is done at the home of the bride’s parents or at the mosque

b. It is officiated by an Imam

c. It is done according to the dictates of the Quran

3. Traditional marriage

a. It is done at the home of the bride

b. the marriage rites are conducted by the brides kinsmen

c. Bride price is paid and other bridal items e.g kolanuts, yams, honey, etc are brought

The teacher discusses the common marriage practices in Nigeria

1. Bride price also dowry is paid by the groom and his family to the bride and his family

2. The traditional marriage usually holds at the house of the bride’s parents

3. The traditional marriage is held according to the customs and traditions of the bride’s family

4. A list of traditional items including kolanuts, tubers, of yam, goats, groundnut oil, palm oil etc are necessary for the ceremony
