SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

  1. Identify forms of technology
  2. Examine examples of underdeveloped technology
  3. Explain system application
  4. Explain and mention examples of sprint races
  5. Describe the skills, techniques and safety rules for sprint races

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration, videos from source, experimentation

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: hoes, cutlasses, starting block, whistle, hurdle stand, spike shoe, track, stones, charts of animals as labour on the farm etc

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revisits the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining what technology is-

Technology is the use of science in solving problems and creating problem solving tools and instruments.

 

Underdeveloped technology is the use of crude tools and methods to do things

EXPLANATION

The teacher further explains the various examples of underdeveloped technology

1. farming with hoes and cutlasses

2. using town crier for communication

3. use of animals like camels, donkeys, etc for transportation

4. Stone grinders and mortar an pestles for crushing pepper, onions, tomatoes etc

DEMONSTRATION

Using live examples, the teacher describes the characteristics of underdeveloped technology

1. It wastes time

2. it is cheaper

3. it consumes more energy

4. it is low quality technology

Sprint races are short running races

The teacher using the chart, gives examples of sprint races- 100m, 200m, 400m.

She also explains the skills and techniques involved in sprint races

1. Take off. The stride is very fast in sprints.

2.  The Running. This is the actual running of the race.

3.  The Arm action. The hands are open and swing across the chest.

4.  The Finish.

System applications are used to perform particular tasks. It can also be called the application software.

 

She further demonstrates the uses of system applications

1. creating, editing and formatting documents

2.  editing audio, videos, pictures

4. play audios and watch videos

5. surf the internet

6. for learning and teaching

 

Some examples of system applications include ZOOM, Mavis beacon, Corel draw, Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Paint) etc
