Class: Primary 3
Term: 1st Term
Week: 5
Class: Primary 3
Age: 8 years
Duration: 40 minutes of 3 periods
Date:
Subject: Basic Science and Technology
Topic: Mirror image formation
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration, videos from source, experimentation
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: plane mirrors, lenses-concave and convex, empty cans with shiny surfaces, pencil and book
INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
PERIOD 1: Mirror image formation
PRESENTATION | TEACHER’S ACTIVITY | PUPIL’S ACTIVITY |
STEP 1 INTRODUCTION | The teacher revisits the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining what a Mirror is and what mirror image formation is- Mirror is a shiny surface that reflects all the light that strikes it
Mirror Image Formation- this is when an object is placed in front of a mirror and the same object is seen in the mirror | Pupils pay attention |
STEP 2 EXPERIMENTATION | The teacher demonstrates image formation using a mirror and any of the learners who stands in front of it | Pupils pay attention and participates |
STEP 3 DEMONSTRATION | Using real mirrors, she further explains and demonstrates the types of mirrors 1. Concave mirror- it has an inward curvature at the centre 2. Convex mirror – it has an outward bulge
She further explains the applications of reflection of light 1. We could see ourselves clearly in the mirror 2. It is used to produce objects such as a torch light and headlamp for seeing near and far objects | Pupils pay attention and participate |
STEP 4 NOTE TAKING | The teacher writes a short note on the board | The pupils copy the note in their books |
NOTE

EVALUATION: 1. Define these terms
CLASS ACTIVITY: Pupils in pairs, demonstrate the reflection of light using plane mirrors
CLASSWORK: As in evaluation
CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the pupils positively
PERIOD 2 and 3: Hardware devices. Physical fitness
PRESENTATION | TEACHER’S ACTIVITY | PUPIL’S ACTIVITY |
STEP 1 INTRODUCTION | The teacher revisits the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining what Hardware devices are-
Hardware devices are physical parts of the computer that could be seen and touched. | Pupils pay attention |
STEP 2 EXPLANATION | The teacher using the chart, describes the two forms of hardware devices a. Input devices: they are used to enter commands, data and instructions into the computer e.g mouse, joystick, scanner, microphone, keyboard etc b. Output devices: They are used to retrieve data, results and information from the computer system e.g monitor, printer, speakers etc | Pupils pay attention and participates |
STEP 3 DEMONSTRATION | She displays the hardware devices for the pupils to identify | Pupils pay attention and participate |
STEP 4 NOTE TAKING | The teacher writes a short note on the board | The pupils copy the note in their books |
NOTE

from the computer system e.g monitor, printer, speakers etc
EVALUATION: 1. Define the term “Hardware devices”
and give three examples of each
CLASS ACTIVITY: Pupils in small groups, identify and state the various hardware devices
CLASSWORK: As in evaluation
CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the pupils positively
