THE TIV PEOPLE

They are located in Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa and Plateau state. They descended from a man known as Takurundu. He gave birth to two children who gave birth to five children each. The ten children are the ancestors of the Tiv people. The Tiv people are mainly Christians though some are muslims.

Their native dressing is a fabric wrapped around the waist and reaching the knees. They prefer their black and white traditional clothes known as “A’nger”. Women can wear it in many different ways; as blouse, skirts and head-tie.

The traditional attires are worn at political meetings and funeral ceremonies. The white colour signifies peace and love while the black colour signifies the black people of Africa.
