NOTE
Nigeria with over 150 million population and more than 370 ethnic groups has three major ethnic groups: Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. There are several other ethnic groups numbering more than one million members which include
THE MUMUYE PEOPLE
They are located in Taraba state and some parts of Adamawa state. They are primarily agricultural people and their primary crops are millet, ginger, beans, yams, squash, peanuts etc. The men are responsible for cultivating the crops while the women are responsible for scattering of seeds, husking corn and helping their husbands do light field labour.
The rural Mumuyes live in circular hamlets (small settlements) and both nuclear and extended families live together forming hamlet and thereon a village. They plant cactus hedges and dig deep pits wit spears at the bottoms to protect themselves against intruders.
Their annual yam festival is their most important celebration. Two men wear ceremonial costumes dancing opposite each other. Their outfits include straw hats with feathers, wooden masks with trails of grass or horses’ tails horns, and long leather shields to cover their bodies
