There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.

NOTE

States in Nigeria

There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.

 

SOKOTO (Seat of the Caliphate)

It was created out of the North western state in 1976. Its capital is sokoto. Usman Dan Fodio’s tomb is located in Sokoto state. Economic activities include cultivation of grains and beans and the herding of cattle. Farmers of Sokoto also utilize the Fadama (floodplains river) to grow food stuffs such as tomatoes and pepper. It consists of 23 local government areas.

 

TARABA (Nature’s gift to the Nation)

It was created in 1991 out of Gongola state. Its capital is Jalingo. Economic activities include cultivation of citrus fruits, cocoa, tubers, oil palm, fishing, herding and logging. It consists of 16 local government areas. Majority of people in the state are Christians and muslims.

 

YOBE(Home of peace)

It was formed in 1976 from the North-Eastern state. Its capital is Damaturu. Economic activities include cultivation of groundnuts, maize, cotton and grains as wells as herding of cattle. Farmers also grow tomatoes, onions, peppers and carrots in small irrigated garden plots. It consists of 17 local government areas.

 

ZAMFARA STATE (Farming is our pride)

It was created out of Sokoto state in 1996. Its capital is Gusau. It was the first of several northern states that incorporated sharia into their criminal code. It consists of 14 Local government areas.
