States in Nigeria
There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.
NIGER (The Power state)
It was created in 1976 out of North western state. Its capital is minna. Islam and Christianity are the predominant religions. Economic activities include the cultivation of food crops (e.g grains, beans, groundnuts and fruits), herding of livestock and fishing. It consists of 25 Local government areas.
LAGOS (Centre of Excellence)
It was created from the western region in 1967. Its capital is Ikeja. It serves as the core of Nigeria’s trade and commerce and the site of one of Nigeria’s International Airport. It consists of 20 Local government areas.
OGUN (Gateway state)
It was created in 1976 out of the Western state. Its capital is Abeokuta. The major religions are Christianity and Islam. Economic activities include the cultivation of rubber, Kolanut, citrus fruits, tubers and oil palm. It consists of 20 local government areas.
ONDO STATES (Sunshine state)
It was created in 1976 out of western state. Its capital is Akure. Economic activities include cultivation of cocoa, oil palm, Kolanut and rubber, petroleum production off-shore and bitumen extraction onshore. It consists of 18 Local government areas.
