There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.

NOTE

States in Nigeria

There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.

 

KEBBI(Land of Equity)

It was created out of Sokoto state in 1991. Its capital is Birnin-Kebbi.  They are predominantly Muslims. It is also one of the 12 states to incorporate the Sharia law into their criminal codes. Economic activities of the state include quarrying stones (granite and quartzite) and growing crops such as cotton, grains and beans. It consists of 21 local Government areas.

 

KOGI (The Confluence State)

It was carved out of Benue and Kwara states in 1991. Its capital is Lokoja. Economic activities include cultivation of crops such as coffee, cocoa, oil palm, cashews, groundnut and melons. It consists of 21 local government areas.

 

KWARA (State of Harmony)

It was created in 1967 out of the western region. Its capital is Ilorin. Economic activities include cultivation of a wide assortments of fruits(cocoa and bananas), grains and tubers(yams and cassava). The dominant religions are Islam and Christianity. It consists of 16 local government areas.

 

NASSARAWA (Home of Solid Minerals)

It was created in 1996 out of Plateau state. Its capital is Lafia. Economic activities include cultivation of various foodstuffs such yams, cassava, beans, tomatoes, oranges, bananas and the mining of salt, iron, and semiprecious stones such as amethyst. Christianity and Islam are the major religions in the state. It consists of 13 local government areas.
