SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Recognize, read and spell the ‘ow’ graphemes

ENTRY BEHAVIOR: Pupils can identify and recite all the letters of the alphabets and the vowels

SET INDUCTION: The teachers uses the ‘Oh did you see the Billy goat’ song to arouse the pupils

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Discussion, group activities, songs

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Objects with the ‘ow’ grapheme, chart showing objects with the ‘ow’ grapheme sound, white board, dry erase marker, clue cards

INTRODUCTION

-Revises the Long and short vowel sounds we’ve treated before

- Introduces the grapheme ‘ow’ as one of the variations of the Long ‘o’ sound

- Explains that the sound ‘ow’ takes the sound of the ‘o’ letter name and could also sound as ‘ow’ e.g crowd

- Gives a list of word with the ‘ow’ sound

GUIDED PRACTICE

- Shows the pupils clue cards with the grapheme in front and a clue word at the back. Have them say the clue word then sound the grapheme it represents e.g snow(long o)

Or owl(ow)

- Shows the children several images of words containing the grapheme ‘ow’ and asks them to pronounce it aloud

- Gives the pupils exercises on the ‘ow’ sound
