Duration: 40 minutes of 3 periods

Date:

Subject: Basic Science and Technology

Topic:-       Air (Wind)

          -        Classification of computer by generation

          -        Safety education

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

  1. Explain the meaning of wind
  2. Describe the effects of wind on human and non-living things
  3. Demonstrate how wind works
  4. Explain the fourth and fifth generation of computers
  5. Explain the meaning of safety education
  6. List the safety education conditions for first aid treatment

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: piece of paper, feathers, charts showing the effects of wind etc, pictures of fourth and fifth generation of computers, hand fans, kite, balloons, first aid kits

PERIOD 1: Wind

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revisits the previous lesson on developed and underdeveloped technology and introduces the new topic by allowing the class to brainstorm and formulate the meaning and causes of wind by watching video clips

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher then explains what wind mean- wind simply means air in motion

She further explains that the effects of wind could either be useful or harmful

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

Using live examples, the teacher explains the useful effects of wind

A gentle wind is called BREEZE

1. wind is a source of energy

2. wind is used for sailing boats, ship etc

3. wind is used in flying kites, airplanes etc

4. it is useful in separating chaffs from grain

5. it helps us to move effectively

6. it cools our body and environment

7. it helps in the growth of plants and crops

The teacher then demonstrates how wind work y using hand fan, kite, balloon and balls

Pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 4

NOTE TAKING

The teacher writes a short note on the board

The pupils copy the note in their books

NOTE

Wind simply means air in motion. The effects of wind could either be useful or harmful

Useful effects of wind

A gentle wind is called BREEZE

  1. wind is a source of energy
  2. wind is used for sailing boats, ship etc
  3. wind is used in flying kites, airplanes etc
  4. it is useful in separating chaffs from grain
  5. it helps us to move effectively
  6. it cools our body and environment
  7. it helps in the growth of plants and crops

EVALUATION:    1. What is wind?

  1. Another name for gentle breeze is __________
  2. Enumerate four useful effects of wind

CLASS ACTIVITY: Pupils in small groups, analyse why wind is essential

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the pupils positively

PERIOD 2 and 3: Classification of computer by generation. Safety education

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revisits the previous lesson on first, second and third generations of computers

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher then explains fourth and fifth generations of computers

FOURTH GENERATION(1971-1980)

Fourth-generation computers used microprocessors which were designed using the LSI (Large Scale Integration) and VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) technology. The computers became small, portable, reliable and cheap. The computation time is in picoseconds. They became available both to the home user and for commercial use.

FIFTH GENERATION(1982-date)

Fifth-generation computers are expected to be capable of learning and self-organization. The computers use SLSI (Super Large-Scale Integration) chips and have large memory requirements. They use parallel processing and are based on (AI) Artificial Intelligence. The fifth-generation computers are still being developed.

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

The teacher explains the meaning of safety education

Safety education is a series of instructions and warnings that provides awareness about possible harms and injuries with an objective of minimizing injuries and their fatal consequences

The teacher then outlines the safety education conditions for first aid treatment

1. Put on gloves, nose mask and other safety apparel before administering first aid treatment

2. Attend to bleeding first

3. Keep the crowd away from the victim

4. if you don’t have adequate knowledge about first aid, don’t administer it

5. Call for ambulance or rush the victim to the hospital once first aid has been administered

Pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 4

NOTE TAKING

The teacher writes a short note on the board

The pupils copy the note in their books

NOTE

FOURTH GENERATION (1971-1980)

Fourth-generation computers used microprocessors which were designed using the LSI (Large Scale Integration) and VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) technology. The computers became small, portable, reliable and cheap. The computation time is in picoseconds. They became available both to the home user and for commercial use.

FIFTH GENERATION (1982-date)

Fifth-generation computers are expected to be capable of learning and self

organization. The computers use SLSI (Super Large-Scale Integration)

chips and have large memory requirements. They use parallel processing

and are based on (AI) Artificial Intelligence. The fifth-generation computers

are still being developed.

EVALUATION:    1. Describe the fourth generation of computers

  1. Describe the fifth generation of computers
  2. Explain the meaning of safety education
  3. Outline safety education conditions for first aid treatment

CLASS ACTIVITY: Pupils, as a class discuss the fourth and fifth generation of computers

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the pupils positively
