There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.

NOTE

States in Nigeria

There are 36states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) under the control of the Federal government. In Nigeria, there are 774 local government areas.

 

ABIA STATE (God’s Own state)

It is located in South East, Nigeria. The capital is Umuahia. It was carved out of Imo state in 1991. The name Abia is an acronym for the state’s four most populated regions: Aba, Bende, Isikwuato and Afikpo.

Economic activities include sales of petroleum, cashews, tubers and bananas. They are predominantly Christians. It consists of 17 local government area.

 

ADAMAWA (Land of beauty, sunshine and Hospitality)

It is located in North eastern Nigeria. Its capital is Yola. It was named after Mordibo Adama, the 19th century Jihadist. It was created out of Gongola state in 1991. Economic activities include Kolanut, maize and rice production

It consists of 21 local government areas. Christianity is the main religion

 

AKWA IBOM (Promised Land)

Akwa Ibom is located in the south southern Nigeria. Its capital is Uyo. It was created out of Cross river state in 1987. It is a petroleum-producing state. It consists of 31 local government areas. The main religion is Christianity.

 

ANAMBRA STATES (Light of the nation)

It Is located in south eastern Nigeria. Its capital is Awka. It was created from East-central state in 1976 with Enugu. Economic activities include cultivation of yams and fishing. It has 21 local government areas. The main religion is Christianity
