SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by Explaining what a sentence is

A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense

 

The simple sentence is one that has a subject, verb and sometimes an object. A simple sentence begins with a capital letter and end with a full stop e.g

Subject          verb            object

The man    is climbing    

The man    is climbing      a tree

Pupils observe, learn and participate

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION/TEACHER MODELLING

The teacher further explains the meaning subject, verb and object

1. subject- it is hat or who is being talked about in a sentence. A noun or pronoun may be the subject.

In the example above, ‘the man’ is the subject

2. Verb- this is the word that tells us what the subject is doing

3. object- this is the receiver of the action. It could be a noun or a pronoun. In the above example, ‘the tree’ is the object
