INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

PERIOD 1: Clay

PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

PUPIL’S ACTIVITY

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher revisits the previous lesson on properties of clay soil

Pupils pay attention

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher then explains the meaning of clay

Clay is an earthy material that is plastic when moist but hard when fired, that is composed mainly of fine particles of hydrous aluminum silicates and other minerals, and that is used for brick, tile, and pottery.

The teacher further outlines the materials and procedures in preparing clay

Materials

1. different clay types (plastic clay with a sandy clay, etc.)

2. clay with sand

3. grog

4. ash

5. sawdust etc.

Procedures

1.   Start wedging or kneading the clay. ...

2.   If there are no air bubbles, press clay together tightly and form into a ball by rolling on work surface. ...

3.   Clay is now ready to use for either wheel throwing or hand building.

Pupils pay attention and participates

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

The teacher further outlines the uses of clay

1. Bricks, cooking pots, art objects, dishware and even musical instruments such as the ocarina are all made with clay.

2. Clay is also used in many industrial processes, such as paper making, cement production, pottery, and chemical filtering.

3. Clay is used for manufacturing ceramic tiles as well that can be used for counters, floors, and walls.

Pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 4

NOTE TAKING

The teacher writes a short note on the board
