STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The Teacher explains that music staff is a set of five horizontal lines and four spaces that each represent a different musical pitch or in case of a percussion staff, different percussion instrument.

EXPLANATION

She explains that pitches of notes are given by their vertical position on the staff and notes are played from left to right. She explains the different types of staff, their arrangement and positions.

DEMONSTRATION

She demonstrates by the use of a music manuscript the different types of clef and their uses. She assists the pupils as they draw this staff and their position.

The teacher writes the note on the board while the pupils copy.

NOTE

Appropriate music symbols, depending on the intended effect, are placed on the staff according to their corresponding pitch or function. The purpose of staff in music is to show the different pitches that should be sung or played. The Staff is divided into the upper, middle and lower semi-circle. Each semi-circle is known as clef

Types of staff

Treble staff: This is also known as G-clef. It is the most commonly used clef in music notation. The G-clef is also known as G line or G staff. The Line in the middle staff is the G-clef

Bass staff: This is also known as F-clef. It is known as F line or forth line. The line below the middle line is the F-clef

Other types include single and Grand staff
