INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by Explaining what a sentence is

A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense

 

The simple sentence is one that has a subject, verb and sometimes an object. A simple sentence begins with a capital letter and end with a full stop e.g

Subject          verb            object

The man    is climbing    

The man    is climbing      a tree

Pupils observe, learn and participate

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION/TEACHER MODELLING

The teacher distinguishes statement, question and command

1. statement ends with a full stop at the end e.g

I am looking at the picture.

Timi is going to church

2. Questions ends with a question mark at the end e.g

Where are you going?

Is she a fat girl?

3. Command ends with a full stop e.g

Shut up.

Come over here.

 

She further explains that statements can be turned into questions and questions into statements e.g
