An indigene is a native of a place
NGAS PEOPLE
They are found mainly in Plateau state. In naming s new born baby in Ngas, names are given to the child by the father or grandfather based on the circumstances surrounding the birth of the child.
“WONG” is an Ngas masquerade that comes out during festive occasions. Ahild born during a festival is named “Ngowong”. A male child born on a rainy day is called “Ngofwan” and Nafwan if the child is female. A name like Ngochuk(one with the knife) is given to a child who took a while to urinate after he was born
In Ngas, marriages are contracted before the kids understand what marriage means. Paying for the wife involves faming for the inlaws as long as the courtship lasts, then one goat is offered to the parents of the bride and another goat is given to the maternal uncles of the girl.
BIROM PEOPLE
They are located in Plateau state. Birom speak the berom language. They have a rich cultural heritage one of which is the “Nzem Birom” festival which is related to faming and hunting.
