They are one of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria. They are located in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara and Ogun states.

They practice both christianity and Islam even though some of them are still traditionalists.  They are believed to have come into existence between 2000-1000BC.

Some historians have traced Yoruba people’s origin from Egypt and final settlement in Ile-Ife Nigeria.

Oduduwa is believed to be the first leader of the Yorubas who also sent his sons and grandsons to find other Yoruba kingdoms.

Oyo is best known as the major kingdom that eventually emerged as an empire in Yorubaland. Oyo is believed to have been founded by Oranmiyan, the son of Oduduwa.
