Content:   Verbs. Past tense.

Specific Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  1. Pronounce, spell, read and write common sight words
  2. Identify and use verbs in making sentences
  3. Correctly use the past tense
  4. Read and answer questions from a simple comprehension passage

Instructional Material: Letter charts, charts of common sight words, charts showing verbs definition and examples, charts on the correct use of the past tense, comprehension passage

Instructional Techniques: Repetition, explanation, demonstration, question and answers 

Entry Behaviour: The pupils can identify nouns and its examples  

Set Induction: The teacher uses alphabet rhyme to arouse them

Periods I-II: Common sight words

The teacher reviews the previously taught sight words and introduces the topic as common sight words.

 

She explains that sight words are words that cannot be pronounced with the sound of the letters

Evaluation:

Periods III- IV: Verbs, Past tense

The teacher proceeds to explaining what a verb is a ‘doing’ and ‘action’

For example

5.   Mark eats his dinner quickly.

The teacher reviews past tense with the pupils. She explains that any event that has already happened is called past tense. She writes some examples on the board.

Periods V: Simple comprehension passage
