Topic: Common sight words- spellings, reading, filling the gaps and writing

Content: Parent’s name and occupation. More on present tense. Singular and plural (adding es).

Specific Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to

  1. Pronounce, spell, read and write common sight words
  2. Correctly make plural of words by adding ‘es’
  3. Correctly use the present tense
  4. State the name of their country and state

Instructional Material: Letter charts, charts of common sight words, charts showing singular and plural of words(by adding es), charts on the correct use of the present tense, charts showing different professions

Instructional Techniques: Repetition, explanation, demonstration, question and answers 

Entry Behaviour: The pupils can spell, pronounce and write three and four-letter words,  

Set Induction: The teacher uses alphabet rhyme to arouse them

Periods I-II: Common sight words

The teacher reviews the previously taught sight words and introduces the topic as common sight words.

 

She explains that sight words are words that cannot be pronounced with the sound of the letters

Evaluation:

  1. The teacher dictates the words ‘first, find, how, know, white’ for the pupils to write down in their notes

Periods III- IV: Singular and plurals(adding es), introduction to present tense

The teacher revises present tense to the pupils. She explains that any event happening right now is called present tense. She writes some examples on the board.

Evaluation:         1. Write the plural form of the following words

  2. mango
  3. dress
  4. glass
  5. brush

 

2. Underline the present tense in these sentences

  1. Jen speaks English
  2. The dog barks very hard
  3. Paul and Ben are late to school everyday

Conclusion: The teacher marks their books, corrects where necessary and commends them positively

Periods V: Parent’s name and occupation

She proceeds to ask each one of them to tell the class the name of their parents

 

She also teaches them the various occupations there are and proceeds to ask them the occupation of their parents. Each child is asked to state his/her parent’s occupation

Evaluation:         1. What is the name of your parents?

  1. What is the occupation of your parents?

Conclusion: The teacher marks their books, corrects where necessary and commends them positively
