SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

  1. Give the simple meaning of baptism
  2. Describe how Jesus was baptised

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration, story-telling

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: toys, picture books showing Jesus being baptized by John the Baptist and of a dove descending on him,  bible, story book

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher uses I’m in the Lord’s Army song to introduce the topic.

She explains what a baptism is- It means when we are dipped fully into water to show that we believe in Jesus death and resurrection

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

She then further explains that Jesus was now 30 years old and wanted to fulfill every requirement of righteousness so he went to be baptised

DEMONSTRATION

Using the bible story books and the pictures there in she tells the story of Jesus’ baptism

-      How he went to be baptized by John the Baptist

-      He was baptized at river Jordan

-      When he was baptized a dove came from heaven and descended on him

-      How a voice from heaven recognized Jesus as a God-pleasing son

The teacher writes the notes on the board

The pupils copy the notes in their books

 

NOTE

When Jesus was 30 years old, he went to John the Baptist to be baptized. John Baptized him in the River Jordan. After Jesus was baptized, a dove came down from heaven and rested on his head and a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased”.

EVALUATION:    1. ________ is when we are dipped in the water. (marriage, baptism)

  1. Who baptized Jesus? ( Emmanuel the Baptist, John the Baptist)
  2. Where was Jesus Baptized? (River Benue, River Jordan)
  3. What descended on Jesus? (a snake, a dove)
