  2. Identify what a ‘cat’, ‘sack’ and ‘kit’
  3. Recite the rhymes with ease

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher introduces the topic with the animal song;

 

She explains that a wife is a woman married to a man

 

She explains that a sack is a large bag used for storing and carrying things

 

She explains that a kit is a clothing used for an activity

The pupils pay attention and participate

STEP 2

EXPLANATION

The teacher explains the rhymes and shows them a picture of the man with seven wives, cats, kits and sacks

 

She also explains the wordings one after the other

Pupils listen

STEP 3

RECITATION

The teacher recites the rhyme as many times as possible and asks the pupils to do same.

As I was going to St. Ives I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks, each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits: kits, cats, sacks and wives,
How many were going to St. Ives?
