Topic:        Oral Counting/ Identification of 0 – 80

Content:   Writing 0 –40, number endings 1- 40, colours, shapes. Fill in the missing numbers 1- 40.

Specific Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

  1. Count and identify numbers 0- 80
  2. Write numbers 1 – 40
  3. Identify shapes and colours
  4. Fill in the missing number

Instructional Materials: Number chart, flash card, counters

Instructional Techniques: Demonstration, repetition, questions 

Entry Behaviour:  The pupils can count 1 – 70                                                                                                               

Set Induction: The teacher uses number rhyme to arouse their interest

Instructional procedure

Periods I and II: Oral counting/ Identification of 1-80, writing of 1-40

The teacher uses number chart to count 1 - 80

She writes 1 – 80 on the board and counts repeatedly

The pupils repeat after her

She places cut out chart in front of the pupils for identification

The pupils listen

The pupils books will be given to them to write number 1 – 40

The pupils write

 

Evaluation: The teacher asks the following questions

  1. Count and identify numbers 1 – 80
  2. Write numbers 1 – 40

Conclusion: She commends and corrects them positively

 

Periods III: Fill in the missing numbers 1- 40. Number endings 9 -40

She writes numbers 1 – 40 on the board with some number missing: 1 ____ 3 _____ 5 _____7 ___ 9 ____ 11 _____ 13 _____ 15 etc

She teaches number endings 9-40, 9 – 10, 19 – 20, 29 – 30 etc

 

 

Evaluation: The teacher evaluates with the following questions

  1. Fill in the missing numbers and number endings

Conclusion: She commends them positively

 

Periods IV: Shapes and colours
