Topic:        Oral Counting/ Identification of 0 – 40

Content:   Writing 0 – 15, Number values 1 – 10, Fill in the missing numbers 1- 10, 4 basic shapes and other shapes and colours.

Specific Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

  1. Count and identify numbers 0 - 40
  2. Place the number values of objects
  3. Fill in the missing numbers 1- 10
  4. Identify more shapes and colours

Instructional Materials: Number chart, poster colour, countable objects etc

Instructional Techniques: Repetition, explanation, questions and answers

Entry Behaviour:  The pupils can count 1 – 30                                                                                                                  Set Induction: The teacher uses number rhyme to arouse their interest

Instructional procedure

Periods I: Oral counting, Identification of 0-40. Writing 0 – 15

She displays the corn chart and count 1 – 40 repeatedly

The pupils count

She writes the numbers on the board thus:

1  2  3  4   5   6  7   8   9  10  11   12   13   14  ……

The pupils repeat after her

 

Evaluation: The teacher asks the following questions

  1. Count numbers 1- 40
  2. Identify number from the corn chart
  3. Write number 1-15

Conclusion: She marks their books and corrects where necessary

 

Periods II and III: Fill in the missing number value.

She draws objects on the board, counts and writes the number values

 

She also uses counters for more emphasis

She writes 1 -15 on the board with some numbers missing

1 ___ 3 ___ 5 ___ 7 ____ 9 ____ 11 _____ 13 ___ 15

She fills the missing numbers as she counts

 

 

Evaluation: The teacher evaluates with the following questions.

(1) Count and write the number values

 

(2) Fill in the missing numbers: 1 ____   ____ 4______ 6 _____  _____ 9 _____  ____ etc

Conclusion: She commends them positively

 

  Periods IV and V: Fill in the missing number value.
