The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by listing the words that describe words that go with specific prepositions
Some words always go with particular prepositions in English. These words are verbs, nouns and adjectives. If the wrong preposition is used, the meaning is distorted and the sentence becomes ungrammatical. The following are examples
a. Verbs + Prepositions: 1. Apologize for – He apologized for his mistake. 2. Depend on – They depend on their parents for support. 3. Belong to – That book belongs to her. 4. Concentrate on – You need to concentrate on your work. 5. Look after – She looks after her younger brother. 6. Believe in – I believe in hard work. 7. React to – How did she react to the news? 8. Agree with – I agree with your opinion. 9. Focus on – He needs to focus on his studies. 10. Succeed in – She succeeded in her career. b. Adjectives + Prepositions: 1. Afraid of – She is afraid of spiders. 2. Famous for – The city is famous for its beautiful architecture. 3. Good at – He is good at solving puzzles. 4. Interested in – She is interested in learning languages. 5. Proud of – They are proud of their accomplishments. 6. Worried about – I'm worried about my health. 7. Responsible for – He is responsible for the project. 8. Tired of – She is tired of waiting. 9. Keen on – He is keen on playing football. 10. Similar to – This dress is similar to the one she wore last week. c. Nouns + Prepositions: 1. Advantage of – One advantage of living here is the weather. 2. Reason for – What is the reason for your absence? 3. Interest in – She has an interest in science. 4. Problem with – There’s a problem with the printer. 5. Difficulty in – He had difficulty in solving the math problem. 6. Solution to – They found a solution to the issue. 7. Influence on – Her advice had a great influence on my decision. 8. Increase in – There’s been an increase in demand for organic products. 9. Need for – There is a need for more schools in this area. 10. Love for – He has a deep love for music.
