NOTE

STI, HIV/AIDS

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), or sexually transmitted infections

(STIs), are infections that are passed from one person to another

through sexual contact. They are usually spread during vaginal, oral, or

anal sex. Some examples include syphillis, gonorrhea,  

 

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the body's

immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired

immunodeficiency syndrome). There is currently no effective cure. Once

people get HIV, they have it for life.

 

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a chronic, potentially

life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus

(HIV).

MODES OF TRANSMISSION OF HIV/AIDS

  1. Through sexual intercourse
  2. through breastfeeding
  3. sharing of sharp objects
  4. it can be transmitted during pregnancy, labour or delivery
  5. Through infected blood transfusion

 

PREVENTION OF HIV/AIDS

  1. by abstaining from sex
  2. by not sharing sharp objects and personal items with others
  3. by screening blood properly before transfusing it
