WATER TRANSPORTATION

Water transportation is the movement of people and goods from one place to the other over bodies using ships, boats, raft etc

 

TYPES OF WATER TRANSPORTATION

  1. Ocean Navigation- this is by ship on the ocean or the sea
  2. Inland waterways – this is the movement through creeks, canals, lagoons within a nation’s borders using canoes and boats

 

ADVANTAGES OF WATER TRANSPORTATION

  1. the maintenance cost is less
  2. it is less expensive compared to road and rail transport
  3. it is good for carrying heavy goods
  4. it is used in defence by the Navy
  5. it is instrumental is foreign trades

DISADVANTAGES OF WATER TRANSPORTATION

  1. it is sluggish and time-consuming
  2. pilfering happens largely on ships
  3. it is not suitable for small businesses
  4. Navigation becomes difficult during monsoons
