COMBINED EVENTS

Combined track and field events are competitions in which athletes participate in a number of track and field events, earning points for their performance in each event, which adds to a total points score.

 There are three types of combined events

  1. Decathlon: it consists of 10 athletic events held on two consecutive days. They are events mainly for men. An athlete that compete in decathlon is called a decathlete

Below are the events for the two days

First day- 100m hurdle, high jump, shot put, long jump and 400m race

Second day -110m hurdle, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m race

 

  1. Heptathlon: it consists of 7 athletic events held on two consecutive days. They are mainly for women. An athlete that competes in heptathlon is called a heptathlete.

Below are the events for the two days

First day – 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m race

Second day – long jump, javelin and 800m race

 

  1. Pentathlon: it consists of 5 athletic events on just one day. They are mainly for women. An athlete that competes in pentathlon is called a pentathlete.

The events are long jump, javelin throw, 200m race, discus throw, 1500m race
