DATABASE

Data base Terminologies

  1. Data:- these are raw facts about an items. It may be in words or text,

numbers, pictures and sound etc

  1. Field:- it is a collection of data with similar characteristic. It refers to the column of data in a table. It may be in form of words or text e.g name of student, sex , figures etc

admission numbers, phone numbers and address.

  1. Record:- this is the collection of data for a specific entity.
  2. Entity:- this refers to a person, object, an event or transaction e.g students, teachers, employee etc
  3. Data table ( or tables ) :- this is an arrangement of data in rows and columns e.g students database
  4. File:- it is a collection of related records
  5. Key:- this is a field used to sort or quickly retrieve information from a database e.g in a student records, admission number can be used as a key field.
  6. Index:- A summary table helps one to quickly look up the contents of any records in a database.
  7. Data base Administration:- It is an integration of file which comprised of one or more table e.g A collection of class file in a school.

 

ADVANTAGE OF DATABASE

  1. It reduces duplication of data’
  2. It improves data security
  3. It achieves data security
  4. Data and I formation are rapidly retrieved.

 

DISADVANTAGES OF DATABASE

  1. It leads to acquire a large hardware configuration
  2. The software DBMS ( Database Management System) is very expensive.
  3. It enquire an expert administration staff
