Formatting a graph/chart

Formatting a graph means changing the appearance of a graph to make it more presentable and attractive.

Formatting attributes can be applied to your chart to make them look the way you want before they are printed.

Some formatting attributes

  1. Changing the font of title on the graph.
  2. Changing the font size of text on the graph.
  3. Changing the font colour of text on the graph, etc.

 

How to change the font, font size and font colour on the graph

  1. Click on the text or title.
  2. Click on the Home tab or menu.
  3. Navigate to the font group section and select the desired font, font size or font colour from the drop down list.

 

How to save a graph/chart

  1. Click on File in the menu bar.
  2. Click on Save it Save As.
  3. Type in the file name.
  4. Specify the storage location in the 'save in' bar.
  5. Click Save.

 

How to print a graph/chart

  1. Select or highlight the graph.
  2. Click on File in the menu bar.
  3. Click on print in the File sub-menu.
  4. Specify the print option.
  5. Click on Print.

 

PARTS OF A CHART

  1. Legend: This is a box to the right of the plot area that tells what each data series in your chart represents.
  2. Data series: These are set of numbers in either row or column i.e the data that you plot on a chart.
  3. Chart title: This is the text at the top of the chart that describes the overall chart.
  4. Plot area: This is the central area within a chart area where the actual chart is displayed.
  5. Value axis: This is the axis listing values for the data series. The Y-axis is also called the value axis because it displays the values.
  6. Value axis title: This is a headline identify the value axis.
  7. Category axis: This is the axis listing categories for the data series. The X-axis is also called the category axis.
  8. Category axis title: This is the headline which identifies the category of the axis.
