NOTE

RECREATION, LEISURE AND DANCE

Leisure is the condition of having one’s time free from the demands of work or duty. It can also be defined as free time as a result of temporary exemption from work or duties.

OBJECTIVES OF LEISURE

  1. the intellect is developed
  2. it builds social skills especially if others are involved
  3. one can take a break from demanding jobs and be revitalized
  4. it can bring about an aesthetic appreciation
  5. Skills are developed in various sports and games
  6. The general fitness of the individual is improved

REST

Rest s a condition of being free from activity, movement, disturbance etc

Why we rest

  1. It is the easiest remedy for tiredness.
  2. Oxygen, sugar etc used up while fatigued is replenished
  3. It prevents tension

SLEEP

Sleep is being totally unaware of happenings in our environment. During sleep, all functions of the body slows down, growth and repair takes place.

HOW TO SLEEP
1. Sleeping room must be quiet and properly ventilated

  1. the bed must be wide enough for stretching and turning
  2. the bed should be firm with little or no pillow
  3. Eat moderately for a sound night’s sleep
  4. Excitement and worry should be eliminated before sleep

AMOUNT OF SLEEP REQUIRED
New born- 21 hours

2 to 4 years – 15 hours

5 to 6 years – 11 to 12 hours

7 to 8 years – 11 hours

9 to 13 years – 10 to 11 hours

14 to 18 years – 10 hours

Adults – 7 to 9 hours
