NOTE

GOAL SETTING

A goal is an objective or target that someone is trying to reach or achieve

Goal-setting is the process of taking active steps to achieve your desired

outcome

 

TYPES OF GOALS

  1. Short term goals- These are goals one wants to achieve within a short

period of time, within a week to 5 years

  1. Long term goals- these are goals one wants to achieve over a long

period of time, from 5 years and above

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD GOAL

Good goals are set based on the acronym “S....  M....  A....  R....  T....”

S stands for Specific- this is knowing exactly what you want to achieve

M stands for Measurable- there should be ways/criterias to know how far gone you are in the achievement of the goal

A stands for Achievable- it must be a goal that can be attained

R stands for Realistic – it must be real, reachable and within one’s life purpose

T stands for Time-bound- this is a specific time frame the goal must be achieved

 

IMPORTANCE OF GOAL-SETTING

  1. it gives us focus and direction and adds a sense of purpose to our

existence

  1. it keeps us away from unnecessary distractions
  2. It boosts one confidence and self-esteem
  3. it motivates someone to work hard
  4. it helps one to use time judiciously

 

HOW TO ACHIEVE ONE’S GOALS

  1. Identify the goal
  2. list out possible options on how to achieve it
  3. research extensively and pick the best option or method to achieve the

goal

  1. Develop a line of action
  2. set a time-frame for the achievement of the goal
  3. take note of progress at each level
  4. Get a mentor or accountability partner that will keep you on track
  5. be consistent and tenacious on the line of actions
  6. Stay flexible as plans can change
  7. set a reward for the achievement of the goal as a motivation boost
