INTRODUCTION

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by discussing how the present progressive tense is used

 

We use the present progressive tense for actions happening now, for actions happening around now and when making arrangements for the future.

Examples

1.   I am playing(action happening now)

2.   We are starting rehearsals this weekend(actions happening around now)

3.   I am travelling next week(arrangement for the future)

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION/TEACHER MODELLING

The teacher further explains how the present progressive tense is formed

 

We form the present progressive tense by combining the simple present tense of the verb be(am/is/are) with the -ing(progressive) form of the main verb.

If the subject is ‘I’ we use ‘am’, If it is he/she/it, we use ‘is’, if the subject is ‘you’ or ‘they’ we use ‘are’.
