NOTE

NON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES

  1. STROKE: it is the stoppage of the blood supply to part of the brain,

CAUSES

  1. a blood clot
  2. clotting within an artery
  3. the bursting of a blood vessel

SYMPTOMS

  1. difficulty in breathing
  2. paralysis of part of the body
  3. skin feels clammy to touch
  4. speech may be affected
  5. loss of consciousness

TREATMENT/CONTROL

  1. call an ambulance immediately
  2. keep the patient quiet and warm
  3. patient should be made to sit up or lie down with the head and shoulders

raised

  1. constant exercise of the limbs
  2. many routines such as walking and sitting down will have to be learnt

again

  1. a speech therapist needs to be consulted to help the patient speak again

 

  1. OBESITY: this is the condition of being overweight.

CAUSES

  1. eating too much
  2. physical disorder
  3. compulsive eating due to anxiety and depression

PREVENTION/CONTROL

  1. introduce portion control
  2. eat balanced meals
  3. carry out a lot of exercise

 

  1. DIABETES: there are two forms
  2. Diabetes insipidus; it arises from a hormonal imbalance that makes the

kidney overactive or renders them unable to reabsorb the water passed to

them from the blood

It is caused by a lack of vasopressin, an antidiuretoc hormone (ADH) that

controls the blood urine output

TREATMENT

  1. an injection of ADH to correct the hormone deficiency
  2. treatment with diuretic the disease has resulted in kidney disorder
  3. Diabetes mellitus- here, the body regulates sugar concentrations in the

bloodstream. Its symptoms include coma, increased and frequent urination,

persisted thirst etc

 

  1. BOILS: these are infections of the hair roots or sweat glands caused by

the staphylococcus bacteria.

 

  1. RICKETS: This disease is caused as a result of Vitamin D deficiency in

the body

SIGNS

  1. restlessness
  2. sweating profusely
  3. head becomes large in size
  4. sagging and protruding belly
  5. walking is affected

TREATMENT

  1. good food
  2. exposure to sunlight
