DECISION MAKING

Decision making is simply choosing between available alternatives and

backing it up with immediate actions

TYPES OF DECISIONS

  1. Major decisions: They are decisions that have strong effect on the

course of one’s life e.g decisions on career, life partners, whether to have

pre-marital sex or not etc

  1. Minor decisions: they are decisions that have little or no effect on the

course of one’s life e.g decisions on what to eat, wear, play games, watch

television etc

FACTORS THAT AFFECT DECISION MAKING

  1. Values system
  2. personal goals
  3. Religious belief
  4. societal norms
  5. expectations of parents/guardian
  6. peer groups and friends

 

IMPORTANCE OF DECISION MAKING

  1. It gives direction and adds meaning to life
  2. it builds confidence and self-esteem
  3. It builds a resistance against negative conformity
  4. It helps to stream-line and work in accordance to one’s values
  5. It leads us on a part to unusual self-discovery
  6. It enables us to make the best choice out of the options available

Step 1: Identify the decision. You realize that you need to make a decision.  

Step 2: Gather relevant information.

Step 3: Identify the alternatives.

Step 4: Weigh the evidence.  

Step 5: Choose among alternatives.

Step 6: Take action.

Step 7: Review your decision & its consequences.
