MARKETING

  1. Assembling

Collection of farm produce for sale. This is usually carried out to ensure

greater convenience and economy during transportation, grading or

processing.

  1. Grading

Grading involves separating the commodities into different sizes, varieties,

tastes, quality, colour etc. This is done to enhance market value and

uniformity.

  1. Processing

Processing describes the transformation of farm produce into a more

consumable form. e.g conversion of wheat into flour.

  1. Transportation

This is the movement of farm produce from the place of production to the

place of final consumption. Transportation of farm products is carried out

through various means such as road, rail, air, and water.

  1. Storage

This is the act of keeping or holding large supplies of produce from the

period of production until when needed by the consumers.

  1. Packaging

Packaging is described as the process by which farm products are bundled

or packed into containers of different attractive shapes, sizes and patterns

in order to entice consumers as well as enhance sales.

  1. Distribution

This is when the goods are distributed by wholesalers and retailers to the

end-users

 

TYPES OF MARKETS FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE

  1. Monopoly: When there are one seller and more buyers.
  2. Duopoly: When there are two sellers.
  3. Oligopoly: Where there is a small number of sellers.
  4. Monopsony: When there is only one buyer.
  5. Duopsony: When there are two buyers.
  6. Oligopsony: When there are a small number of the buyer
  7. Perfect competition: This is when there are sufficient buyers and sellers

In the market

  1. Imperfect competition: This is either when there are more buyers than

sellers or more sellers than buyers
