Week 3 |
The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by describing how the /ᴂ/ and /a:/ sound is pronounced.
/ᴂ/ When you say the sound /ᴂ/, the tip of your tongue touches the lower front teeth, the back of your tongue is down and your lips are spread. /ᴂ/ is a short vowel sound.
She further describes the spelling of /ᴂ/
Here are few ways the /ᴂ/ sound is pronounced
/a:/ When you say the sound /α:/, the tongue is low inside the mouth, the tip of the tongue is not near the lower front teeth and the back of your tongue is down. The mouth is open, the shape of the lips is oval and the jaw is down a little.

/e/ The sound /e/ is pronounced when the front of the tongue is raised midway, the lips are loosely spread and slightly wider apart than for the sound /I/. the back of the tongue and the jaw are down a little.
