NOTE

ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES OF TRANSPORTATION (OF EACH TYPES OF TRANSPORTATION)

Road Transportation

Advantages

I.) Can reach almost any destination with a road network

II.) Provides direct access from origin to destination.

III.) Suitable for short distances and local deliveries.

Disadvantages

I.)  Susceptible to delays and congestion, especially in urban areas.

II.)  Contributes to pollution and carbon emissions.

III.) Cannot efficiently handle large-scale freight transportation compared to rail or water transport.

Rail Transportation

Advantages

I.) Can transport large volumes of goods and passengers efficiently.

II.) Economical for transporting heavy and bulk cargo over long distances.

III.) More fuel-efficient per ton-mile compared to road transport.

Disadvantages

I.) Fixed routes and schedules may not provide door-to-door service.

II.)  Requires substantial infrastructure investment (rails, stations).

III.) Slower compared to air transport for long-distance passenger travel.

Air Transportation

Advantages

  1. Fastest mode of transportation over long distances.
  2. Can access remote locations and connect distant markets.
  3. Ideal for perishable goods and urgent deliveries.

Disadvantages

  1. Generally more expensive per unit of weight or distance compared to other modes.
  2. Susceptible to weather disruptions affecting schedules.
  3. Significant greenhouse gas emissions per passenger or cargo unit.

Water Transportation

Advantages

I.) Economical for transporting large volumes of cargo over long distances.

II.) More energy-efficient per ton-mile compared to road or air transport.

III.) Connects major ports worldwide, facilitating international trade.

Disadvantages

I.) Slower compared to air or road transport, especially for long distances.

II.) Operations can be disrupted by adverse weather conditions.

III.) Requires ports and navigable waterways, limiting accessibility to inland areas.

Pipeline Transportation

Advantages

I.) Minimal energy consumption per unit of cargo transported.

II.)  Low risk of accidents compared to road or rail transport.

III.) Can operate 24/7 without interruptions for refueling.

Disadvantages

I.) Expensive to build and maintain pipelines.

II.) Fixed routes and difficult to reroute in case of changes in demand or conditions.

III.) Potential for environmental damage in case of leaks or spills.

EVALUATION: 1. In each case, mention 3 Advantages and disadvantages - Water transportation, Air transportation, Rail transportation.

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the students positively
