NOTE

CAUSES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic violence is violence committed by someone in the victim's domestic circle. This includes partners and ex-partners, immediate family members, other relatives and family friends. Below are the causes

  1. poverty
  2. unemployment
  3. drug addiction
  4. illiteracy
  5. peer influence
  6. infertility and childlessness

 

EFFECTS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

PUNISHMENT FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

In 2015, the Violence Against Persons Act was passed. It has the following regulation for spousal battery in section 19(1): “A person who batters his or her spouse commits an offense and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or to a fine not exceeding ₦200, 000 or both

.
