INTRODUCTION |
The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by discussing the content aspect of composition assessments
Main areas in the assessment of compositions 1. CONTENT Content in composition refers to the information you are required to give concerning a particular subject or topic. It is other words, the information and experiences you are required to give to the reader or your teacher through writing. Content is a very important aspect of your composition. It is your main purpose of writing. If you do not have adequate information about the subject, your composition will be very poor. To be able to write good compositions, you should have adequate knowledge of what you want to write about. You also have to develop your ideas well. To have plenty of ideas, you should do the following; A. Be a good observer of people, events and things B. Enjoy reading storybooks, newspapers and magazines C. Visit places of interest like amusement parks, airports and zoological gardens D. Jot down the new words and expressions you come across in order to build up your vocabulary and also learn good expressions |

The teacher then defines organization and how it is one of the main areas of assessment in compositions 2. Organization This refers to the arrangement of ideas, incidents, details in an appropriate order and in paragraphs. Remember that the term “composition” means “putting together”. You need to put different aspects of your composition together so as to get a complete whole. Remember you also need to adhere to the general organizational structure of every composition, that is, the introduction, body and conclusion. Apart from this, remember that each type of composition has its own unique organizational structure. You should also pay attention to this. For example, the features of an article are different from that of a narrative essay. You also need to pay attention to paragraphing, development of ideas, coherence and balance |
