EXTENDED FAMILY

This is a family group made up of parents, children and other close

relatives living in a single household as a family unity

They include the paternal relatives(from the father’s lineage) and maternal

relatives(from the mother’s lineage)

 

ROLES OF EXTENDED FAMILY MEMBERS IN CHILD”S DEVELOPMENT

  1. they act as an agent of socialization
  2. they assist in transmitting cultural norms and traditions
  3. they teach the child how to relate to elders, good and acceptable morals,

religious beliefs, mother language, ways of greeting and interactions with

other people and performing chores.
