NOTE

METHODS OF REARING FISHES
1. Monoculture: it is the rearing of one type of fish species in one pond to maturity.

ADVANTAGES

  1. less skill is required
  2. less capital is needed
  3. the aquarium will last longer

DISADVANTAGES

  1. only one type of fish is harvested
  2. poor feed utilization is experienced
  3. there is no positive influence on the growth and production of one another
  4. Polyculture: This is the rearing together of some species of fish in one pond. This is not the best method of rearing fish

ADVANTAGES

  1. One type of fish species has positive influence on the growth and production
  2. it has efficient use of the to the total pond environment
  3. it reduces space waste and utilizes pond well

DISADVANTAGES

  1. a specie of fish may prey(feed) on the other if not well selected
  2. it may result in overcrowding and high mortality
  3. it requires more capital
