NOTE
ABSTINENCE
- Abstinence is the practice of refraining from engaging in certain activities, often for a specific period of time or permanently.
- Sexual abstinence refers to the voluntary decision to refrain from sexual activity, particularly sexual intercourse, either temporarily or as a long-term or permanent lifestyle choice. This may be practiced for various reasons, including personal, cultural, religious, or health-related motivations.
Types of Sexual Abstinence:
- Complete Abstinence: This type refers to the total avoidance of any form of sexual activity, including sexual intercourse and other intimate behaviors, as a lifelong commitment or temporary decision. It is often practiced for religious or moral reasons, or as a conscious choice to avoid the risks associated with sexual activity (such as unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections).
- Temporary Abstinence: This form of abstinence is practiced for a set period of time, after which individuals may choose to engage in sexual activity. It may be chosen for personal reasons, such as focusing on education or career, emotional healing, or in order to prevent pregnancy during a specific period (e.g., before marriage or while recovering from illness).
- Conditional Abstinence: This refers to a form of abstinence where individuals decide to refrain from sexual activity under certain circumstances, such as within a relationship, but choose to engage in sexual activity when specific conditions are met (for example, when they are in a stable, committed relationship or married).
EVALUATION:
- What is the difference between complete and temporary sexual abstinence?
- Explain the reasons why individuals may choose to practice sexual abstinence.
- How can sexual abstinence contribute to reproductive health and overall well-being?
- What are the possible challenges faced by individuals practicing sexual abstinence, and how can they be addressed?
- In what ways can society support and promote the practice of sexual abstinence, especially among young people?
