NOTE

USES OF FISH AND FISH PRODUCTS
1. Food: Fish supplies us good quality protein for growth and maintenance of our body tissues e.g smoking, frying etc

  1. Fish Oil: It is rich in Omega 3 fatty acid and keeps us healthy. It can also be used in the production of soaps, candles, drugs, paints, wax etc
  2. Glue and Fertilizer: fish bones are used for making glues and fertilizaers
  3. Livestock Feed: Fish flesh and bones are used in making fish meal, which supplies protein and calcium in the animal feed
  4. Medicinal Purposes: Fish products have medicinal properties and are rich in fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.
  5. Leather materials: The skin of cartilaginous fish like shark, is tough and covered with short small spines. It is treated to produce very special leather called SHAGREEN. Crocodile and turtle skins are also made into leather bags, wallets, belts and shoes
  6. Ornamental articles: Certain parts of the fish are treasured as articles for decoration and jewels. Shells, scales, teeth especially shark teeth, have been used for making necklaces and other decorative items
  7. Aesthetic: Some people like to have fish pond or aquarium in their homes for pleasure and enjoyment
  8. Buildings: Shells of oysters and periwinkles are some3times mixed to make the walls of buildings stronger
  9. Polishing materials: the dried skin or shagreen is sometimes used like glass paper for polishing surfaces
