NOTE

HOME APPLIANCES

Appliances can be defined as devices and equipment designed to perform specific domestic functions

There are three categories of appliances

  1. Major appliances- they are large domestic devices and machines used to accomplish routine house-keeping tasks e.g dish washers, washing machines, television, microwave ovens, gas cookers and cylinders, etc
  2. small appliances- they are potable and semi-potable devices and machines used on table tops, counters and other platforms to accomplish household tasks e.g electric iron, food processors, toasters, electric kettles etc
  3. Consumer electronics- they are equipments used mostly for entertainment and communication in the home e.g mp3 players, video recorders, DVD players, digital cameras, camcorders, mobile phones, flash lights etc

USES OF APPLIANCES IN THE HOME

  1. Electric iron- to press cloth and remove creases
  2. Electric kettle- to boil water
  3. Blender- for grinding food items and other substances
  4. Boiling ring- to boil water
  5. Refrigerator- for cooling drinks and preserving food

 

DANGERS IN THE WRONG USE OF APPLIANCES

  1. injury or death to the user
  2. breakdown of appliances
  3. fire outbreak
  4. chemical poisoning

 

CORRECT WAYS OF USING APPLIANCES

  1. caring for the appliances
  2. maintenance of the appliances
  3. cautious use of the appliances
