THE RULE OF LAW

PRINCIPLES OF RULE OF LAW

  1. Equality before the law; it states that all men are equal before the law, therefore laws should not be bent to favour any person whether young or old, rich or poor, king or servant, and all citizens should be entitled to fair hearing and equal rights.
  2. Impartiality; this principle states that there should be due process of law in dealing with offenders, that is, no one should be penalized for crimes he did not commit without proper investigation and court proceedings.
  3. Rights if individuals; this principle states that citizens of a country should enjoy certain basic inalienable rights and liberties under the law, violation of which they have the right to seek redress in the law court.
