Week 7

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining what homonyms are and gives examples

 

Homonyms are words that have the same spelling or pronunciation but differ in meaning.

 

Examples of Homonyms:

1.   Bat (an animal) vs. Bat (a piece of sports equipment used in baseball or cricket)

o    Example: A bat flew in the cave while I held a baseball bat.

2.   Tear (to rip) vs. Tear (a drop of liquid from the eye)

o    Example: She shed a tear after accidentally causing a tear in her dress.

3.   Right (correct) vs. Right (a direction)

o    Example: You gave the right answer, then turned right at the corner.

4.   Row (a line of things) vs. Row (to propel a boat with oars)

o    Example: He sat in the front row and learned how to row a boat.

5.   Lie (to rest or recline) vs. Lie (to tell an untruth)

o    Example: You can lie down on the bed, but don't tell a lie.
