Homonyms are words that have the same spelling or pronunciation but differ in meaning.
Examples of Homonyms: 1. Bat (an animal) vs. Bat (a piece of sports equipment used in baseball or cricket) o Example: A bat flew in the cave while I held a baseball bat. 2. Tear (to rip) vs. Tear (a drop of liquid from the eye) o Example: She shed a tear after accidentally causing a tear in her dress. 3. Right (correct) vs. Right (a direction) o Example: You gave the right answer, then turned right at the corner. 4. Row (a line of things) vs. Row (to propel a boat with oars) o Example: He sat in the front row and learned how to row a boat. 5. Lie (to rest or recline) vs. Lie (to tell an untruth) o Example: You can lie down on the bed, but don't tell a lie. |
