EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Education is defined as the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs and acceptable habits.

Educational institution is a place where people of different ages gain or acquire education

 

TYPES OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA
1. Nursery educational institutions- this is education organized for children between the ages of 2-5years

  1. Primary educational institutions- this is formal education organized for young children between ages 5-11
  2. Secondary educational institutions- this is formal education organized for teenager between ages 12-19. Here the knowledge gathered during primary education is applied to real life situations
  3. Tertiary educational institutions- these are educational institutions for people above 18years where skills, knowledge and competence in a specific area is acquired and a certificate is issued

TYPES AND FEATURES OF EDUCATION

1. Formal education: this kind of education takes place in educational institutions structured according to educational arrangements such as curriculum, qualifications and teaching-learning requirements.

  5. there is strict discipline

2. Informal education: it is the process through which pa person gains knowledge and skills outside the structured curriculum of formal education

  3. there are no strict regulations
  4. there is nor organization

3. Non-formal education: it is neither part of the formal nor informal education. These are courses that take place outside of schools, universities and other educational institutions.

  4. there is structure
  5. gainful skills are acquired
