RELIGION

Religion is defined as the belief in the existence of God.

NAMES WE CALL GOD IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES AND COMMUNITIES IN NIGERIA

  1. Igbos call God

Chukwu- Almighty God

Chineke- God who creates

  1. Hausas call God Ubangiji meaning the only and one true God
  2. Yorubas call God

Olorun- owner and ruler of the heavens

Olofi- one who is the conduct between orun(heaven) and aye(earth)

  1. Efiks call God ‘Abasi’ which means creator God
  2. Ijaws call God ‘Tamara’ which means Great God and Creator of all things
  3. Nupes call God ‘Soko’ which means God is Almighty, Creator
  4. Gbayis call God ‘shekwo’ which means Almighty, the creator of all things wich has perfect control over the whole created order
  5. Tivs call God ‘Aondo’ meaning Almighty God, the Great God

 

TYPES OF RELIGION IN NIGERIA

  1. African traditional religion which reflects on the culture of Africa. It has no historical founder.
  2. Christianity is a religion founded by Jesus Christ and has a sacred book called the Holy Bible
  3. Islam is a religion founded by Muhammed and has a sacred book called the Quran

 

THINGS OUR RELIGION TEACHES US IN NIGERIA

SIMILARITIES IN OUR RELIGIONS IN NIGERIA
