Week 3

The teacher revises the previous lesson and introduces the new topic by explaining what homophones are and gives examples

Homophones are words that sound the same when pronounced but have different meanings, spellings, or both. Despite their identical pronunciation, they can have entirely unrelated meanings.

Examples of Homophones:

1.   Their (belonging to them) vs. There (a place) vs. They’re (they are)

o    Example: Their car is parked over there, and they’re coming soon.

2.   To (preposition), Two (number), Too (also or excessively)

o    Example: I’m going to the store to buy two apples, but that’s too many.

3.   Bare (naked) vs. Bear (the animal or to carry)

o    Example: He walked on the bare floor while a bear crossed the path.

4.   Hear (to listen) vs. Here (a location)

o    Example: I can hear you from over here.

5.   Allowed (permitted) vs. Aloud (spoken out loud)

o    Example: She is allowed to read aloud in class.

6.   Knew (past tense of "know") vs. New (recent or not old)

o    Example: I knew the answer, but I bought a new book instead.

7.   Right (correct) vs. Write (to form letters or words)

o    Example: She got the right answer but forgot to write it down.

8.   Whole (entire) vs. Hole (a hollow space)

o    Example: He ate the whole cake, and there was a hole in the ground.
