NOTE

BASIC SKILLS IN TABLE TENNIS

  1. The grip: there are two types of grips
  2. pen holder grip- here, the racket is held with the thumb resting on its

front side while the forefinger is hooked over it. The idle finger rests on the

back of the racket. This grip is also known as vertical holds grip

  1. orthodox grip: the racket is held with the thumb stretched diagonally in front and the forefinger at the back. The other fingers are curled around the handle.
  2. Service: The ball is thrown from the other hand that is not holding the racket, it is then cotacted by the racket so that it touches the server’s own court before it crosses he net
  3. Strokes: there are two types of strokes
  4. forehand stroke: the player assumed feet-apart postion by moving the right foot-back. The racket is kept tilted. The ball is met with force of the lower arm and wrist movement.
  5. backhand stroke: this is when the ball approaches from the left. The right shoulder points towards the table. In this stroke the bat is held in such a way that the back of the hand faces the ball.
